Description
This interview between Sherlly Dolmuz and Juan Ramirez (pseudonym) explores Juan’s immigration from Nicaragua to the United States, his childhood in Nicaragua, and Nicaraguan politics. Juan describes flying into Guatemala and crossing the border through Mexico to the United States to escape the Sandinista National Liberation Front, a socialist political party in Nicaragua. He discusses the emotions he and his family had about his immigration process. Juan also describes the ways in which he adopted to US culture.
This interview was conducted as part of an undergraduate final project for the University of Maryland, College Park course IMMR 400 (Spring 2020).
